Balance and Posture

In this six-week program we start with center of mass over base of support (see first two pictures on picture/video page). If the upper body is too far forward of the lower body, it increases our risk of falling. We will make the necessary postural changes to correct this position. We will reactivate the muscles of the feet and glutes (somatosensory system - muscles and brain sending information back and forth) to improve motor control. I will show you a move that can keep you from falling. Finally, we will decrease your fear level (you won’t even know it is happening). Fourteen students have given up their canes or walkers on a full- or part-time basis.

Move Pain Free

Pain is the body telling us that we are not moving properly. In this six-week program we look to correct our joint architecture. We start with the feet and work our way up the body to the suboccipitals (C1 - C2) at the base of the skull. After organizing the spine we will address the hips and shoulders and correct the improper joint architecture associated with aging. Some clients see significant results within seven days.

Reverse the Aging Processes

This program is for private clients only. I start with an assessment of joint architecture and movement patterns. We talk about your personal goals and longevity concerns. I then design a personalized program combining corrective and physical exercise. The Reverse the Aging Processes program addresses the eleven issues I have identified that should be of concern to seniors.

Lower Body Stability

In this six-week program we address strength and movement patterns in the lower body. We will get your lower body moving in all three planes of motion. We normally move in only one. We also work on getting out of chairs and climbing stairs. Many students exhibit knee valgus (collapse of one or both knees inward when getting up from a chair). This robs them of power and makes getting out a chair difficult. This is quite common, and it is an easy fix.

Upper Body Mobility

In this six-week program we address mobility issues of the scapular (shoulder blades). Reach and mobility is compromised due to connective tissue getting sticky around the scapular. The average student increases their reach by two to three inches during this program. This increase in mobility can help prevent shoulder impingement and rotator cuff issues.

Glute Workshop

In this six-week program we strengthen and mobilize the muscles of the buttocks. These are some of the most important muscles in the body, and all we do is sit on them. When activated the gluteus maximus supports the lumbar spine. This will help eliminate lower back pain. When activated the gluteus medius is the primary stabilizer of the hip. This helps with balance and stability. When we sit our hip flexors become over-active. This causes back pain and bad posture (hunched over). When we activate the glutes, the hip flexors become less active (reciprocal inhibition). If you do the homework, you will feel totally different in just six weeks.

Circuit Training

In this six-week program we try to prevent and reverse the effects of osteoporosis and sarcopenia (muscle loss). Osteoporosis mainly effects the spine and hips which makes falls incredibly dangerous. Muscle loss is another problem associated with aging. We lose roughly 8 percent of our muscle mass every decade. Fortunately both can be addressed using the same modality; body-weight and resistance training. In this program we work the major muscle groups with compound, multi-joint movements.
